Over the last200+ years the 26.2 cm x 32 cm (10 ¼ inches x 12 ¾ inches) board that this oilpainting is

on has shrunk, exposing the tapered wood braces on the back.

These braces aredovetailed into the wood panel and prevented the panel from warping.
